Shawn BToronto, ON (April 10, 2007) - Toronto urban tap sensation Shawn Byfield celebrates the one-year anniversary of his national tap dance ensemble Funk Factory with Live in Rhythm. Byfield and his knock-out crew will present four shows at the Toronto Centre for the Arts on May 24 and 25.
Recognized as a leading instructor of tap dance classes and choreography, Shawn Byfield selected the members of Funk Factory from a tap audition held in April 2006. Under Shawn’s leadership the original chosen six have been working together perfecting their technique and performance skills ever since. Live in Rhythm will showcase the amazing talent and passion of Byfield and his crew.
“The purpose of the show is to reintroduce tap dance into today’s lifestyle” states Shawn Byfield, the group’s director and choreographer. “Our parents and grandparents used to watch tap dancers in theatres and movies. That doesn’t happen anymore. I’m just trying to raise awareness by using 80’s funk, and a few contemporary tracks from artists we hear on the radio today.”
An outstanding choreographer and dancer Shawn started dancing at the age of six and has been performing professionally for the past 23 years. A former faculty member at the Randolph Academy For The Performing Arts, Shawn is also Producer and Co-Director of Toronto's hip hop company Thrive! Entertainment. His performing skills have led him to appear in live events, on television shows, and on silver screens across North America. His most recent feature film performance is in Hairspray, featuring John Travolta, Queen Latifah and Michelle Pfiffer.
In addition to performing at various music venues throughout Toronto during the past year, Funk Factory has headlined such events as Toronto's National Tap Dance Day celebration and the Feats Festival of Dance in Edmonton.  The company is comprised of performers from British Columbia, Alberta and Ontario who now call Toronto home. They are Toronto born Shawn Byfield, Allison Bradley, Kyle Brown, Carlos Bustamante, Juliana Kelly, Lindsay Kramer and Rebecca Lewis.

As Byfield so aptly states on his website “this ain't like what your grandparents used to do.” Funk Factory’s tap dance style is fresh, vibrant and like the name says- they’re funky! Come and see Toronto’s master tap dancers in action and revel in Byfield’s show-stopping tap dance choreography.
